Reconditioned Citroën C3 Gearbox

The C3 was offered with up to three types of gearbox for the same engine: manual, SensoDrive or BMP5.

This is the case in particular with the 1.4 HDi and the 1.4 petrol: depending on the year and configuration, the gearbox fitted is not the same, and the parts are not interchangeable. On the C3, the type of transmission is just as important as the engine capacity when identifying the correct reference.

The collection covers nine petrol and diesel engines, with engine codes KFV, HMZ, HNY, HNZ on the petrol side, and 8HX, 8HZ, 9HX, 9HZ, 9HP, YH01, YHX on the diesel side, covering the years 2002 to 2026.

SensoDrive and BMP5: two automated gearboxes not to be confused

The 1.4 HDi is the only engine in this range to offer all three options: 5-speed manual, SensoDrive and BMP5. The SensoDrive is also fitted to the 1.4 petrol (KFV) and the 1.6 petrol (NFU, TU5JP4). These automated manual gearboxes are sold without the actuator or robot unit: only the mechanical gearbox is supplied. The BMP5, specific to the 1.4 HDi, is a special case within the C3 range and shares no components with the SensoDrive.

Recent diesels: 1.5 BlueHDi and 1.5 HDi – different gearboxes despite sharing the same code YH01

The code YH01 appears on both the 1.5 BlueHDi, the 1.5 BlueHDi 100 and the 1.5 HDi, but the associated gearbox is not identical: a 5-speed manual for the 1.5 BlueHDi, a 6-speed manual for the 1.5 BlueHDi 100 and the 1.5 HDi (with the code YHX as a complement). The 1.2 PureTech (HMZ, HNY, HNZ) is always fitted with a 6-speed manual, whilst the 1.6 HDi (9HX, 9HZ, 9HP) is limited to a 5-speed manual. Checking the engine code and the number of gears before placing any order will avoid the most common matching errors on this model.
