What demands do the Ypsilon and the Thesis place on their drivetrain components?

A city car like the Ypsilon endures intensive urban driving: the clutch is constantly engaged at low speed, and the 5-speed manual gearbox is subjected to frequent gear changes and high oil temperatures in summer. At the other end of the spectrum, the Thesis — an executive saloon — and the Lybra in mixed motorway/city use expose the 2.4 JTD and 2.0 Multijet units to prolonged thermal cycles. These different usage patterns produce different failure modes and, when it comes to replacement, call for precise identification.

Gearboxes: the bulk of the range, with a key focus on engine codes

Gearboxes make up the majority of the parts available for Lancia, in 5- or 6-speed manual, as well as DFN transmission for certain versions of the Ypsilon. Correct identification relies on the engine code stamped on the block, as the same engine capacity can correspond to different mechanical families. On the 1.2, codes 169A4000 and 188A5000 do not take the same gearboxes. On the 1.4, codes 350A1000 and 843A1000 cover distinct generations and models (Ypsilon, Musa). The 1.3 Multijet comes in codes 188A9000, 199A2000 and 199A3000, while the 95 hp version carries the code 199B1000. Checking this code before placing an order avoids incompatibilities with the bell housing or axle ratio.

Turbos and engine: a more limited scope, targeting Multijet engines

Three reconditioned turbos round out the range, aimed at Multijet diesel engines. The 2.0 Multijet 165 hp groups several codes — 198 A5.000, 198 A8.000, 844 A2.000, 939 B5.000, 940 A5.000 — found on the Delta, Lybra and Thesis depending on the year. The 1.6 Multijet (code 198A2000) and the 2.4 JTD (code 841C000) complete this diesel scope. A bare engine is also available. The range covers the period 1999–2021; the year of first registration remains a useful filtering criterion alongside the engine code for models that evolved during production.
