Does the 2.0d Série 1 use the same gearbox regardless of whether it has the M47D20 or the N47D20?

No, and this is the most common pitfall with this model. The 2.0d Série 1 was powered successively by two distinct engines — the M47D20 and the N47D20 — which belong to different generations and do not take the same 6-speed manual gearbox. The identical engine capacity is no guide: only the engine code, visible on the block itself, removes any ambiguity. The same logic applies to the 1.5d, which came in B37C15A and B37D15A variants — two codes with their own distinct technical specifications. This collection covers the Série 1 from 2004 to 2019 and includes six engine variants — 1.5d, 1.6d, 2.0d, 2.0i, 3.0 and 3.0i — all fitted with a 6-speed manual, but not all from the same gearbox family.

Petrol or diesel: distinct gearbox families

On the diesel side, the N47D16A from the 1.6d and the 2.0d engines share the same line of 6-speed gearboxes rated for diesel torque, yet the references — as seen in the examples across this collection (GS6-17DG, GS6-17BG…) — vary according to the exact engine code. On the petrol side, the 2.0i (N43B20 or N46B20) and the 3.0 / 3.0i built around the N52B30 use gearboxes from the GS6-45 series, which offer higher ratios and a greater torque capacity. It is worth noting that the N52B30 covers both the 3.0 and 3.0i commercial designations: the engine code remains the only reliable reference for confirming the correct part number.

Two service options available

Parts in this collection are available either on an exchange basis or as a customer-unit rebuild, whereby the customer's own gearbox is returned to them fully reconditioned. These two options are not logistically equivalent and should be chosen according to your circumstances: availability of a replacement vehicle, acceptable lead time, and the condition of the original gearbox.
