Variable-geometry diesel or V6 petrol biturbo: two turbo philosophies on the Classe C

The Classe C has spanned several generations, covering an exceptionally wide range of engines — from the entry-level 4-cylinder diesel to the V6 AMG. That diversity is reflected directly in the turbos: a 200 CDI 102 hp with OM 611 and a C 43 AMG 3.0 V6 biturbo M276 share absolutely nothing in common on the turbocharger side. All turbos listed in this collection are new parts, sold with no old unit to return.

Diesel: the OM646 family dominates, but variants multiply

The bulk of the diesel catalogue is built around two engine families. The OM611 (engine code OM 611.962) is fitted to the earliest 200 CDI 102 hp versions. The OM646 then takes over and breaks down into numerous sub-codes: OM 646.951, OM 646.961, OM 646.962, OM 646.963, OM 646.966 for the 200 CDI and 220 CDI 150 hp; OM 646.811, OM 646.812, OM 646.820, OM 646.821 for the 200 CDI 136 hp and 220 CDI 170 hp. These sub-codes correspond to different calibrations and distinct vehicle generations: the turbo matched to the 646.811 does not necessarily correspond to the one for the 646.962. The full engine code — visible on the block — is essential for selecting the correct reference. At the other end of the diesel catalogue, the C 350 CDI 4-Matic is fitted with a V6 OM642 (OM642.854 or OM642.858), shared with the 320 CDI and 350 CDI (generic OM642): a three-litre twin-turbo architecture, with no connection whatsoever to the 4-cylinder units.

Petrol: C160 and C 43 AMG — two entirely different worlds

On the petrol side, the C160 is based on a 4-cylinder M270.910 or M274.910 — two distinct codes, and therefore two potentially different turbo references. The C 43 AMG, whether referenced as C 43 AMG or C 43 AMG 3.0 V6 biturbo, uses the M276 (276.823 for the biturbo variant): a biturbo configuration on a V6, with two separate CHRAs and boost geometry management specific to this block. The most commonly documented causes of failure on these petrol turbos remain oil degradation and blocked lubrication lines — a point to diagnose before fitting any replacement turbo, regardless of which unit is being replaced.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Mercedes C-Class Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Mercedes C-Class Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
