L200 Turbo: from the naturally aspirated 4D56 to the higher-output 4D56HP and 4M41 — references that are not interchangeable

All the turbos listed here are new parts, sold on a direct-sale basis with no return of the old unit required. This changes the buying logic: if the faulty turbo is rare, difficult to identify, or if the engine has suffered an oil-related failure that requires prior assessment, it may make more sense to have your own unit reconditioned — EDEN BOITES offers this rebuild-on-own-unit service for certain cases. That said, for a standard 4D56 or an identified 4M41, a new part remains the most straightforward solution.

Engine codes: the L200 2.5 does not take a single turbo

The 2.5 TD covers several generations of engine block. The code 4D56 is common to many variants — TD, DI-D, TD 115 hp, TD 133 hp, TD 4x4 99 hp — but the associated turbo references differ depending on the exact variant. The 4D56T and the 4D56TD correspond to distinct TD fitments. The 4D56HP is fitted to the DI-D in its higher injection-pressure versions, and the 4D5CDI covers an entry-level DI-D variant. The 4M41 is exclusive to the 3.2 DI-D: it is the only six-cylinder block in the range, with its own turbo family (reference type VF420088 / 1515A029). Confusing a 4D56 HP with a 4D56TD or a 4D56T leads to an incompatible reference; checking the code stamped on the engine is the only reliable way to identify the correct part.

Causes and symptoms to address before replacement

The L200 is a working vehicle exposed to demanding conditions: oil circuit contamination, DPF deposits on variable-geometry vanes, and foreign bodies on the intake side. A turbo fitted without first identifying and rectifying the root cause — poor oil quality or pressure, a split intake pipe, or a clogged EGR — will suffer the same type of failure. The typical symptoms on these engines are persistent blue smoke, a whistling noise under rising revs, and a measurable drop in boost pressure at the rail. Addressing the root cause is what determines the service life of the new part fitted.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Mitsubishi L200 Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Mitsubishi L200 Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.

    Engine codes covered: 4D56, 4D56TD, 4D56T, 4M41, 4D56HP, 4D5CDI
