Tiguan Turbo: from CBAB to DFCA, seventeen engine codes across five distinct engine variants

On the Tiguan, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable way to identify the correct turbo. Seventeen codes are listed here, and not one is shared between two different engine variants: CBAB, CFFB and CLJA belong exclusively to the 2.0 TDI low-output versions (110, 136 and 140 hp); CBBB, CFGB and CFGC to the 170 and 177 hp versions; DDAA, DFCA and DFHA to the 2.0 TDI 4Motion 190 hp. On the petrol side, the 1.4 TSI 125 covers six codes — CMBA, CPVA, CXSA, CXSB, CZCA, CZDD — corresponding to block revisions over the model's production run, while the 2.0 TSI uses codes DNN and DNNA. Checking the OEM reference printed on the outgoing turbo remains the best starting point.

2.0 TDI: three power families, three groups of incompatible codes

04L253124A or 53039880621. Before any replacement, the root cause of the failure must be identified and addressed: a blocked lubrication circuit, degraded oil, an ingested foreign body or upstream contamination are the most common causes on this engine. Fitting a new turbo without correcting the underlying cause will produce the same result.

1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI: fixed geometry and wastegate, two petrol architectures

The 1.4 TSI 125 (codes CMBA, CPVA, CXSA, CXSB, CZCA, CZDD) uses a fixed-geometry turbo with a wastegate; the variety of codes reflects the revisions made to this block over several years of Tiguan production. The 2.0 TSI (DNN, DNNA) uses a different architecture and its references are specific — 9VA29 and 06Q145701C among them. On petrol engines, the symptoms of a failing turbo are similar: whistling under sustained revs, loss of acceleration response, or persistent white smoke on start-up. All turbos offered within this range are new parts, sold without return of an old unit.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Volkswagen Tiguan Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Volkswagen Tiguan Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
