27 engine codes listed for the Crafter TDI: each code points to a different turbo

On the Volkswagen Crafter, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for identifying the correct turbo. Two visually identical Crafter 2.5 TDI 136 hp models can require entirely different references depending on whether the engine carries the code BJL or the codes CECA / CECB. Likewise, the 2.5 TDI in its 88 hp and 109 hp versions covers the codes BJJ, BJK, CEBA and CEBB, each linked to its own manufacturer reference. The 163 hp version of the 2.5 TDI adds the code BJM to this family. All turbos listed on this page are new and sold as a straightforward purchase with no old unit to return.

2.0 TDI: six power outputs, three clearly distinct code families

The 2.0 TDI generation of the Crafter covers a wide range, from 109 hp to 163 hp, and is divided into three code groups that must not be confused. The first covers CDBA, CKTB, CKTC, CNFA, CNFB, CSLA, CSLB and CSLC (109 to 140 hp). The second brings together the codes CXFA, CXHA, CXHB, DAUA, DAUB, DAUC, DMZE and DNAE (140 and 163 hp). The third, for the 142 hp and 163 hp versions, corresponds to the codes CKUB, CKUC and CSNA. The same stated power output can therefore belong to different families: checking the engine code is essential before placing any order.

Symptoms and causes not to overlook before replacement

On a high-mileage light commercial vehicle such as the Crafter, turbo failure typically presents as persistent blue or black smoke, a whistling noise under load, or the vehicle entering limp mode with power restricted. These signs may indicate worn bearings, excessive turbine shaft play, or actuator failure on variable-geometry units. Before fitting a new turbo, it is essential to identify and address the root cause: degraded oil or a blocked oil circuit, EGR fouling, a foreign body drawn into the intake, or an intake circuit leak. Fitting a replacement turbo without resolving the underlying problem will lead to another premature failure.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Volkswagen Crafter Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Volkswagen Crafter Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
