Why does the Audi A3 1.9 TDI turbo fail?
On the Audi A3 fitted with the 1.9 TDI engine, the turbocharger is put under considerable strain by the unit injectors, which generate high pressures and elevated temperatures in the cylinder head. Insufficient lubrication, oil that does not meet the engine's specifications, or oil changes left too long between intervals all encourage sludge build-up in the oil galleries and premature wear of the turbo bearings. A clogged air filter or a cracked intercooler also disrupts airflow and accelerates turbine fatigue, as does habitually pushing the engine hard without allowing a cooling-down period before switching it off.

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Audi A3 is not left off the road. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
