Restore the New Beetle 1.9 TDI's full responsiveness

On a Volkswagen New Beetle fitted with a 1.9 TDI engine, a turbo in good condition makes itself felt immediately from the first few revs: crisp pick-up from low rpm, no black smoke under acceleration, and the notorious flat spot on pull-away disappears entirely. When the turbocharger starts to wear, the New Beetle loses its get-up-and-go, the engine becomes noisy, and power seems to plateau well before the usual rev range. Fitting a new turbo compatible with reference 713673-5007S restores the vehicle's original character, whether in town or on the open road.

Compatibility with New Beetle 1.9 TDI engines

This new turbo is compatible with Volkswagen New Beetle models fitted with the 1.9 TDI 90 (engine code ALH) and the 1.9 TDI 101 (engine code ATD). Before ordering, it is essential to check the exact reference marked on the old turbo or on the vehicle's registration document, as some versions may have been fitted with very similar but non-interchangeable turbos depending on the model year and trim level.

Exchange basis and warranty on this turbo

This new turbo for the New Beetle is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbocharger is required. The old unit is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your vehicle is not left off the road during the process. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, provided fitting is carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments, to help manage the cost of the repair.

Advice before and after fitting on the 1.9 TDI

On these 1.9 TDI engines, premature turbo failure is most commonly caused by insufficient lubrication due to poor-quality oil or missed oil changes, but also by a clogged air filter or a cracked intercooler hose allowing contaminants to enter. Before fitting, it is advisable to check the oil circuit, the condition of the hoses, and the cleanliness of the turbo's air intake. After installation, priming the turbocharger with oil before the first start-up reduces dry friction and extends the service life of the part. Gentle driving over the first few kilometres, avoiding sudden high-rev bursts, also allows the turbo to bed in correctly on this New Beetle.
