From manual gearboxes to petrol turbos: how the Honda range shifted between diesel and small supercharged units

The Honda collection available here reflects a clear evolution: on one side, the i-DTEC and i-CTDi diesel engines; on the other, a growing presence of small turbocharged petrol VTEC units. In practice, this translates into two families of gearboxes — 5- or 6-speed manuals — and, above all, eight turbos, which account for the majority of references in the catalogue. The manual gearbox is the only transmission type featured in this section; there are no automatic, dual-clutch or automated manual gearboxes here.

Diesel or petrol: two engine families with very distinct codes

On the diesel side, two codes define the range: N16A1 for the 1.6 i-DTEC 120 hp (Civic, CR-V) and N22A2 for the 2.2 i-CTDi (Accord, CR-V). Both engines share a common-rail architecture but have no turbocharger components in common: the references associated with the N16A1 and the N22A2 are strictly specific to each unit. On the petrol side, the L13 family covers four codes — L13A1, L13B1, L13B2, L13Z1 — for the 1.3 naturally aspirated engine fitted mainly to the Jazz and the hybrid Civic. The 1.5 turbocharged unit exists under three commercial designations (1.5 T Si, 1.5 VTEC Turbo, 1.5 Turbo) but all converge on the code L15B7; the next-generation 1.5 T introduces two new codes, L15BM and L15BN, which are not interchangeable with the L15B7. The 1.0 VTEC 129 hp carries the code P10A2, specific to this three-cylinder engine capacity.

Civic, CR-V, Jazz, Accord: where to look depending on your model

The Civic accounts for the majority of available references, in both petrol and diesel, with a 6-speed gearbox for recent turbocharged versions and a 5-speed for earlier generations. The CR-V is covered in 1.6 i-DTEC (N16A1) and 2.2 i-CTDi (N22A2). The Jazz and the Accord each feature one model in the collection, on the L13 and N22A2 units respectively. Reconditioned or new turbos make up the bulk of the range; exchange gearboxes for manual transmissions complete the catalogue.
