The most common pitfall with Isuzu vehicles concerns the 3.0 diesel: the code 4JJ1-TC appears on the 3.0 DiTD, the 3.0 DDi and the 3.0 D alike, while the 3.0 DDi may also use the 4JJ3. The 3.0 TD 4JJ1 simply carries 4JJ1 with no suffix. The same commercial designation can therefore conceal distinct turbo families, and the engine description on the registration document is not enough to identify the correct reference: only the engine code read physically from the vehicle removes any ambiguity.

Turbos: the largest family in the Isuzu catalogue

With 8 turbo references out of 12 parts in total, this is the dominant family in this collection. It covers the D-Max from 2007 to 2024 across all referenced diesel engines: 2.5 DDi (codes 4JK1-TC and 4JK1-TCX), 2.5 D Twin Turbo (code 4JK1E5SLA), 3.0 DiTD, 3.0 DDi and 3.0 D (using either 4JJ1-TC or 4JJ3 depending on the variant), as well as the 2.8 TD from the Trooper (codes 4JB1-T, 4JB1-TC or 4JB1TC). Turbos are available new or as reconditioned exchange units; checking the engine code before ordering is essential, as several turbo references coexist for the same model depending on the year of production.

Gearboxes, transfer case and engine: 5- or 6-speed manual depending on the generation

The 2 referenced gearboxes are exclusively manual, with either 5 or 6 speeds depending on the D-Max generation. This detail directly determines compatibility: a 6-speed gearbox from a post-2012 D-Max is not interchangeable with a 5-speed unit from the earlier series. The transfer case (reference MOB20) and the bare engine (2.5 TD 136 hp, code 4JA1-L) complete the catalogue, the latter available as a rebuild of your own unit.
