No reconditioned petrol engine for the Logan is available in this collection: the range covers exclusively the 1.5 dCi, a diesel unit from the K9K family, available in no fewer than ten different engine codes between 2004 and 2020. This abundance of variants is the first identification pitfall: two Logans with the same mileage, the same apparent model year and the same engine capacity may house mechanically distinct units, with cylinder heads, turbos or injection systems that are incompatible with one another.

Ten K9K codes: why precision is essential

The codes identified in this collection range from the K9K612 (first dCi Logans from 2004–2006, 65 hp) through to the K9K896 and K9K892 found in more recent versions producing up to 90 hp, taking in the K9K714, K9K716, K9K724, K9K792, K9K796, K9K802, K9K808 and K9K820 along the way. Each code corresponds to a specific power output, emissions standard and, in some cases, a particular injection architecture (pump injectors on the earliest versions, high-pressure common rail on later ones). Fitting a different code without verification risks immediate electronic or mechanical compatibility issues.

Identifying the correct unit before ordering

The engine code is stamped directly on the block, on the gearbox side, and also appears on the vehicle registration document in the designated field. It is this code — not the stated power output or the date of first registration — that should guide your choice. The K9K family is well known for its general robustness, but high-mileage examples frequently show EGR valve wear, blocked diesel particulate filters and, on pump-injector versions, injector failures that accelerate internal wear of the block. These symptoms often justify replacing the bare engine rather than carrying out a partial repair.
