People carrier and fleet vehicle: why does the Lodgy engine wear differently depending on how it's used?

The Lodgy is no leisurely runabout. Designed to carry up to seven passengers, it is frequently used by large families, company fleets, or as a heavily loaded trade shuttle. This usage profile — frequent urban journeys, high loads, and high annual mileages — places considerably more thermal stress on the engine than an equivalent compact saloon. When the engine reaches the end of its life, the question of replacement therefore arises sooner, and in a context where the cost of the part genuinely influences the decision.

Three engines, ten codes: identification is the critical point

The Lodgy range (2012–2022) is built around three engines: the 1.2 TCe, the 1.3 TCe, and the 1.5 dCi. The diesel is represented by a single code, the K9K 612. The 1.3 TCe carries the code H5H 470. It is the 1.2 TCe that brings the most complexity: eight distinct codes coexist — H5F-400, H5F-402, H5F-403, H5F-404, H5F-408, H5F-409, H5F-410 and H5F-412 — corresponding to different production runs and markets. Two Lodgy 1.2 TCe vehicles from the same year can therefore be fitted with engines that are not interchangeable. Checking the code stamped on the engine itself, rather than the engine capacity alone, is essential before placing any order.

Bare engine: what is included and what is not

All engines in this collection are offered as a bare engine. The unit does not include any ancillaries (turbo, alternator, starter motor, water pump, or timing belt). For a Lodgy used in demanding conditions, this is an opportunity to replace these wear items at the same time, as their condition is often unknown on a returned engine. The 1.5 dCi — a diesel engine with a reputation for robustness but sensitivity to oil quality in high-cycle applications — deserves particular attention on this point during refitting.
