Six K9K codes against two H4 codes: diesel or petrol, the Sandero does not share its engines

The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for identifying the exact part. On the Sandero, eight codes cover three clearly distinct engine families since 2008, and the disproportion is telling: the 1.5 dCi alone accounts for six variants — K9K612, K9K724, K9K802, K9K808, K9K820 and K9K892 — whilst the two petrol TCe engines have just one code each. Two blocks carrying different K9K codes are not interchangeable, even if they share the same 1500 cm³ engine capacity: the year of first registration and the vehicle generation determine which one is fitted to your engine.

K9K: six codes for the same diesel, but blocks that differ by generation

The longevity of the 1.5 dCi in the Sandero range — from 2008 through to current versions — explains the proliferation of K9K codes. Every change in emissions compliance, power output or calibration produced a specific code. Reading the code directly from the block (rather than from the logbook, which can be inaccurate) remains the safest approach before placing any order. The codes K9K612 and K9K724 correspond to the early years of the Sandero I, whilst K9K802, K9K808, K9K820 and K9K892 span the subsequent phases, notably with the introduction of the Sandero II from 2012 onwards. Mixing up two K9K codes leads to incompatibility in connections or engine management.

H4B_408 and H4D_480: two petrol blocks with nothing in common

The petrol engines in the Sandero are built on different architectures. The H4B_408 is fitted to the 0.9 TCe version, a three-cylinder turbocharged unit. The H4D_480 is specific to the 1.0 TCe, a three-cylinder with a slightly larger engine capacity that appeared more recently in the range. These two codes cannot be substituted for one another: engine capacity, architecture and engine interfaces all differ. Every block listed here is offered as a bare engine.
