The Ateca is primarily used in heavy urban traffic, on A-roads and occasionally on poor road surfaces, with varying loads and frequent stop-start driving. This usage profile places a direct strain on the transmission: the dry dual-clutch DSG 7 gearboxes fitted to the vast majority of diesel Atecas on the market accumulate far more clutch cycles than they would in purely motorway use. The result is that failure symptoms — juddering on pull-away, hesitation when changing down through the lower gears, vibrations at low speed — often appear before 150,000 km on vehicles used intensively in urban environments.

DSG 7 or 6-speed manual: two transmissions with very different replacement considerations

The 2.0 TDI (engine codes DFFA, DFHA, DFGA) is fitted exclusively with the DSG 7 throughout the 2016–2024 period. The 1.6 TDI (codes CUAA, DDYA) is available in two versions: DSG 7 or 6-speed manual, depending on the trim level and model year. These two transmissions share no components, and identification cannot rely on the engine alone — the engine code and the reference stamped on the gearbox casing remain the only reliable means of avoiding an ordering error.

DSG 7: what the reconditioned unit covers

The DSG 7 offered here is sold without the mechatronic unit, with a new dual-clutch assembly included. The mechatronic unit is an electrohydraulic assembly specific to each vehicle and its condition must be assessed separately. The references available in this collection — including SWP, SQJ, SSV, STA, RSP — cover the variants fitted to the Ateca between 2016 and 2024. The 1.6 TDI 6-speed manual has a simpler mechanical design, but correct identification is just as critical: two different axle ratios were used simultaneously depending on the market.
