Reconditioned SEAT Ibiza Gearbox

The Ibiza's gearbox changed family with every generation between 2002 and 2021

Nineteen years of production, four generations and a diverse range of powertrains: the SEAT Ibiza never carried the same gearbox from one era to the next. In 2002, the entry-level engines — 1.2, 1.4, 1.4 TDI — were fitted exclusively with 5-speed manuals. From 2008–2010, the arrival of the 1.4 TSI changed everything with the DSG 7, the only dual-clutch gearbox in the Ibiza catalogue. The 2017–2021 generation (KJ) introduced the codes CHZ, DKL, DKR on the 1.0 TSI and DAJA on the 1.8 TSI, all with a 5-speed manual. The 2.0 TDI, found only on the FR version of the fifth generation, is the sole diesel to require a 6-speed manual, alongside the 1.9 TDI 130 (code ASZ) and the standard 1.9 TDI units.

5- or 6-speed manuals: what the engine code actually means in practice

The vast majority of Ibiza models are fitted with a 5-speed manual, yet several engines span multiple generations with distinct codes and non-interchangeable gearboxes. On the 1.2, codes AZQ and BME correspond to different units from those associated with CGPA and CGPB. On the 1.4, BKY, BXW and CGGB do not share the same gearbox. On the 1.9 TDI, ATD, AXR and BLT take a 5-speed manual, whereas ASZ switches to a 6-speed — a code shared with the 1.9 TDI 130. On the 1.2 TSI (CBZA, CBZB), both gearbox types coexist depending on the variant. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable reference to avoid any ordering error.

DSG 7: fitted to the 1.4 TSI and 1.6 only

The DSG 7 is fitted to just two engines in this catalogue: the 1.4 TSI (codes CAVE, CTHE, CTJC) and the 1.6 (codes BTS, CGPA, CGPB, the latter shared with the 1.2). This gearbox is sold without the mechatronic unit, as the gearbox control unit is excluded from the supply. The more recent diesels — 1.6 TDI (CAYB, CAYC), 1.2 TDI (CFWA) and 2.0 TDI (CFHC, CFHD) — remain exclusively manual, with no automated option available in the range.
