On the Scénic, the same 1.9 dCi conceals four distinct engine code families

This is the classic trap with this range: the 1.9 dCi engine capacity does not correspond to a single turbo but to three entirely separate engine groups. The F9Q 732, F9Q 733, F9Q 738, F9Q 740 (102 and 105 hp) do not share the same references as the F9Q803, F9Q804, F9Q816, F9Q818 (110, 120 and 130 hp), nor as the F9Q 870 and F9Q 872 of the 1.9 dCi 131. Mixing up these families means ordering an incompatible part despite an identical engine capacity. The engine code stamped on the block — visible on the registration document under section P.3 — is the only reliable starting point.

Petrol TCe: 1.2 and 1.3, two different architectures

On the petrol side, the Scénic comes with two clearly distinct families. The 1.2 TCe breaks down into two groups that share some codes (H5F 403, H5F 404, H5F 405, H5F 408, H5F 412) but not all: the 116 hp version adds codes H5F 400, H5F 402 and H5F 410, which are absent from the 132 hp. The 1.3 TCe (115, 140 and 160 hp) is built on a different architecture with codes H5H 450, H5H 470, H5H 480 and H5H 490 — none of these codes are shared with the 1.2. Mixing the two families is a common mistake when relying solely on the stated power output.

1.5 dCi and 1.6 dCi: root causes to identify before fitting

The 1.5 dCi 110 (K9K codes, available in numerous variants: K9K636, K9K646, K9K647, K9K648, K9K649, K9K656, K9K657, K9K837) is known for turbo failures caused by oil circuit contamination and poor lubrication on cold starts. The 1.6 dCi 130/131 hp (code R9M) has a variable-geometry system that is sensitive to soot deposits under heavy urban use. In both cases, a persistent whistling noise, a noticeable loss of power, or the onset of limp mode are warning signs that should not be ignored. Fitting a new turbo without identifying and rectifying the root cause — degraded oil, a blocked diesel particulate filter, or an air leak on the intake hoses — will condemn the new part to an early failure. All turbos listed on this page are new parts, sold without any exchange unit to return.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Renault Scénic Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Renault Scénic Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
