Scénic Gearbox: from 2003 to 2016, very different gearbox families depending on the generation

Over thirteen years of production, the Scénic went through three generations that share neither the same engines nor the same gearboxes. Before selecting a reference, the generation and engine code are the two essential starting points: a single engine designation — the 1.5 dCi, for example — covers several codes (K9K722, K9K728, K9K729, K9K832, K9K836) that are not all compatible with the same gearbox, and the distinction between 5 and 6 speeds depends precisely on this match, not on engine capacity alone.

When rebuilding your own unit makes sense

Only exchange units are available in this collection. Rebuilding the customer's original unit is not offered here, which shapes the decision: if the gearbox has a cracked or beyond-repair casing, the exchange route is the straightforward option. For the rarer references, however — in particular the 2.0 dCi (M9R700 / M9R802) or the 1.7 dCi (R9M, R9M402, R9M404) — availability may vary; checking the exact reference beforehand avoids unnecessary delays.

Diesel, petrol and gearbox families: don't mix them up

On the diesel side, the F9Q engines (1.9 dCi, codes F9Q732 à F9Q872) are fitted to the Scénic I and II and use a 6-speed gearbox that is distinct from the one on the contemporary 1.5 dCi. The 1.6 dCi (R9N) and the 2.0 dCi introduced on the Scénic III have their own gearbox families, with no cross-compatibility with earlier generations. On the petrol side, the 1.2 TCe (H5F400, H5F408) and the 2.0 (F4R 770 / F4R 771) each have their own specific gearbox; the naturally aspirated 2.0 is the only one in this petrol range to receive a 5-speed manual. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable way to avoid ordering the wrong part.
