Captur Gearbox: before and after 2019, the same engine can hide two completely different gearboxes

Yes, the model year can change everything — sometimes just as much as the engine itself. On the first-generation Captur (2013–2019), the 0.9 TCe comes with a 5-speed manual; on the second generation launched in 2019, the 1.0 TCe that replaced it also keeps a 5-speed, but the 1.3 TCe moves to a 6-speed — and the two engines share no gearbox whatsoever.

Five engines, two gearbox families

This guide covers eleven engine codes spread across five engines between 2013 and 2024. On the petrol side, the 0.9 TCe (codes H4B400, H4B408) and the 1.0 TCe (H5H) both receive a 5-speed manual, but they are not the same references — JR5082, JR5062 or JR5332 for the 0.9, TL4094 or TL4364 for other variants. The 1.2 TCe (H5F, H5F403, H5F408, H5F412) and the 1.3 TCe (H5H) move up to a 6-speed. On the diesel side, the 1.5 dCi (K9K 608, K9K 628, K9K 629) retains a 5-speed throughout its entire time in the range.

The identification trap on the Captur

Engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the correct gearbox: on the 0.9 TCe in particular, several engine code variants coexisted within the same generation, each with different gearbox references. The engine code — found on the manufacturer's plate or in the vehicle's technical documentation — is the only reliable way to select the right part, alongside the date of first registration. Mixing up an H4B400 with an H4B408, or a K9K 608 with a K9K 629, can result in ordering an incompatible gearbox despite an outwardly similar appearance.
