Reconditioned Renault Trafic Gearbox

The Trafic gearbox went through three different families between 1999 and 2014

Over fifteen years of production, the diesel Trafic did not follow a straightforward path on the transmission side. In 1999, the launch was built around the 1.9 dCi (engine codes F9Q760, F9Q762), paired with 5- or 6-speed manual gearboxes depending on the variant. The 2.8 dCi (S9W) was available with either a 5-speed manual or the Quickshift automated manual gearbox. From 2001, the 2.5 dCi (G9U 630, G9U 730) became the dominant engine in the range, covering all three gearbox types available on the Trafic — 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and Quickshift — making it the most difficult engine to identify correctly without knowing the exact year and power variant. From 2006, the 2.0 dCi (M9R692, M9R780, M9R782) took over, paired with either a 6-speed manual or the Quickshift, and the cycle closed in 2014.

Quickshift: what the automated gearbox means for the part

The Quickshift is fitted to the 2.5 dCi, the 2.8 dCi, the 2.0 dCi and the 2.0 dCi 115 (M9R). It is an automated manual gearbox: the mechanical gearbox is fully reconditioned, but the actuator or electrohydraulic unit is not included with the part supplied. This is a structural point that must be taken into account before ordering, particularly if the original actuator is faulty.

1.6 dCi: the most recent engine, the least represented

The 1.6 dCi, engine codes R9M450 and R9M452, is available in one configuration only: 6-speed manual. It is the most recent engine in the Trafic range covered here. The number of references available is considerably more limited than for the 2.5 dCi or the 1.9 dCi, which together account for the majority of parts listed in this collection. For every engine, the engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable criterion for confirming exact compatibility with the reconditioned gearbox.
