The Trafic gearbox spanned three generations of diesel engines between 1999 and 2014

The Trafic covers fifteen years of production and six distinct diesel engines, each requiring its own gearbox family. In 1999, the 2.8 dCi opened the catalogue with 5-speed manuals and a Quickshift. The 1.9 dCi and 2.5 dCi then took over on the X83 generation, with a notable transition: the early years remained on 5-speed units, before the move to 6-speed as the engine codes evolved (F9Q760, F9Q762 for the 1.9 dCi; G9U 630 and G9U 730 for the 2.5 dCi). The 2.0 dCi, with its M9R codes (M9R692, M9R780, M9R782), followed and was fitted exclusively with 6-speed manuals or the Quickshift. The 1.6 dCi R9M (R9M450, R9M452) closes the range with a 6-speed manual only.

Quickshift: an automated manual gearbox fitted across four engine variants

The Quickshift is an automated manual gearbox with a separate actuator. It appears on the 2.8 dCi, the 2.5 dCi, the 2.0 dCi and the 2.0 dCi 115. The gearbox is sold without the robot unit or actuator: only the internal mechanical components are rebuilt. This is a critical point when identifying your order, as a vehicle fitted with the Quickshift will require the original actuator to be retained or sourced separately.

The engine code: the only reliable reference to avoid mix-ups

Several Trafic engine variants share the same stated engine capacity whilst being fitted with incompatible gearboxes. A 2.0 dCi may come with either a 6-speed manual or a Quickshift depending on the exact variant. A 2.5 dCi may be 5-speed or 6-speed depending on its model year and G9U code. Checking the V5C alone is not enough: the engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable identifier for selecting the correct reference from the ten listings in the catalogue (PF6010, PK6377, PF6082, PK6025, PK5011, PF6050, PF6040, PF6026, PF6024, PF6012).
