Three engine codes for the Trafic 2.0 dCi 2006–2014: M9R692, M9R780 or M9R782 — what it means for the gearbox

The Trafic 2.0 dCi is built around the M9R family, available in three variants depending on power output and year of manufacture: M9R692, M9R780 and M9R782. This code, readable directly on the engine, is the primary identification criterion: two vehicles with identical model years can carry different gearboxes depending on which M9R code is fitted. The range covers the period 2006 to 2014 and offers two transmission families: the 6-speed manual and the Quickshift (6-speed automated manual gearbox).

6-Speed Manual or Quickshift: what the M9R code tells you

The Quickshift is an automated manual gearbox with an electrohydraulic actuator. It is supplied without the actuator unit (actuator not included), as this component is dealt with separately depending on its condition. The 6-speed manual gearbox paired with the same M9R engines is mechanically distinct and cannot be substituted for the Quickshift, even where the engine code is identical: the casing, shafts and gear ratios all differ. Before placing any order, always check both the M9R code and the gearbox identification on the vehicle — whether from the gearbox plate or the service history — to avoid any confusion between the two families.

Key points to watch with the M9R in van use

Under heavy commercial use, gearboxes paired with the M9R are subjected to high levels of thermal and mechanical stress. On the Quickshift, actuator failures often present before the gearbox itself shows signs of trouble: rough gear changes, refusal to engage or limp-home mode do not necessarily indicate a faulty gearbox. On the manual, the 4th and 5th gear synchronisers are the first components to suffer in mixed town and motorway driving under load. EDEN BOITES offers both families as reconditioned units for all referenced M9R engine codes.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Renault model in stock?

We currently list 8 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Renault?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Renault?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
