Captur 0.9, 1.2 or 1.3 TCe: only the engine code distinguishes between incompatible units

On the Captur, a single engine capacity can cover several engine families with entirely different architectures. The 0.9 TCe is available under engine codes H4B400 and H4B_408, the 1.2 TCe under H5F_403 and H5F_412, and the 1.3 TCe under H5H_450 and H5H_470: six distinct petrol references, to which the 1.5 dCi 110 in K9K 646 is added for diesel.

What the registration year doesn't tell you

On a first-generation Captur (2013–2019), the 0.9 TCe engine capacity may correspond to the H4B400 or the H4B_408 depending on the production run. Likewise, the 1.2 TCe H5F_403 and H5F_412 share the same capacity but differ in their internal calibration. The 1.3 TCe, introduced towards the end of the first generation and carried over into the second generation (2020–2024), comes in two power variants: the H5H_450 and the H5H_470. Only the engine code, readable on the identification plate on the block itself, allows unambiguous identification.

Key points to watch by engine family

The H4B (0.9 TCe) is a three-cylinder turbo known for oil consumption issues under heavy use, often linked to the piston rings. The H5F (1.2 TCe) is prone to deposits on the timing system and head gasket failure caused by repeated short thermal cycles. The K9K 646 remains a robust diesel unit in this power range, but particular attention must be paid to the condition of the EGR circuit before refitting. Every engine listed here is a bare engine: ancillaries, turbo, alternator and starter motor are not included and must be transferred from the original unit.
