Diesel Lagunas age through their engines: four families, four different failure stories

On the diesel Laguna from 2001 to 2015, engine failures follow well-established patterns depending on the engine family. The G9T (2.2 dCi) is well known for EGR valve clogging that causes a gradual loss of power, and for cylinder head cracking on the most heavily used units. The F9Q (1.9 dCi) suffers from premature turbo wear and injector failures which, if left untreated, lead to hydrolocking and destruction of the lower engine. The M9R (2.0 dCi), a more recent unit, is prone to timing issues and oil pump failures on certain variants. The K9K (1.5 dCi), though robust by design, suffers on the Laguna from piston ring fouling and lubrication faults caused by insufficient oil change intervals. In every case, replacing the bare engine becomes necessary once diagnosis rules out a viable partial repair.

28 distinct engine codes: the code is the only reliable identification criterion

The four diesel engines available in the Laguna break down into 28 engine codes distributed as follows: 9 G9T codes for the 2.2 dCi (G9T-600 to G9T-707), 8 M9R codes for the 2.0 dCi (M9R721 to M9R802), 6 F9Q codes for the 1.9 dCi (F9Q-670 to F9Q-774), and 5 K9K codes for the 1.5 dCi (K9K292 to K9K806). Within the same engine capacity, codes are not interchangeable: two Laguna 2.2 dCi models from the same year can carry different G9T codes depending on the trim level and market. The engine code, stamped on the block, is the only reference that guarantees you order the correct bare engine. Mixing up codes within the same family will invariably result in a fitment incompatibility.

Diesel only, bare engines: what this collection covers

The entire collection covers diesel engines, from 2001 to 2015, across the Laguna II and Laguna III generations. All engines are supplied as bare units: ancillary components (turbo, injectors, alternator, starter motor) are not included and must be reused or replaced separately depending on their condition.
