Reconditioned Renault Vel Satis Engine

The Vel Satis is a grand tourer: its engine operates under conditions that only the engine code can correctly identify.

Designed for long-distance motorway cruising, the Vel Satis routinely covered high mileages under sustained load and high revs. This usage profile places very different demands on diesel engines compared with a city car: premature piston ring wear, oil circuit fouling, and thermal fatigue on the cylinder heads. When engine replacement becomes necessary, two engine families are involved across the 2002–2009 production run: the G9T (2.2 dCi) and the M9R (2.0 dCi), which share no common parts and must not under any circumstances be confused with one another.

G9T and M9R: two architectures, nine distinct codes that must not be interchanged

The 2.2 dCi is based on the G9T family, which spans nine engine codes: G9T-600, G9T-605, G9T-606, G9T-607, G9T-700, G9T-702, G9T-703, G9T-706 and G9T-707. These variants reflect differences in power output and engine mapping; a G9T-600 is not a mechanical substitute for a G9T-707, even though the engine capacity is identical. The 2.0 dCi, introduced mid-cycle, uses the M9R family with four referenced codes: M9R-721, M9R-750, M9R-760 and M9R-802. This more recent unit features a different design, particularly in terms of the valve timing and boost management systems.

Identify the correct code before placing any order

On the Vel Satis, the production year alone is not sufficient to determine the exact code: several G9T variants coexisted within the same model year depending on power output and the target market. The engine code physically stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for ordering the correct part. The engines listed here are bare engines; no ancillaries are included. The only purchasing method available is exchange, which requires the return of the old unit.
