Mégane I and II with 1.9, Mégane III and IV with 1.5 dCi or 1.2 TCe: four generations, four very different turbo families

The Mégane has spanned four generations, each bringing engine families that share nothing in common with one another. The earliest diesel Méganes ran on the F8Q and F9Q blocks (1.9 dT 90, DTI 75/80/98, then dCi 100/102/105/130), whose fixed-geometry turbos with wastegate are now all available as new units. The Mégane II 2.0 dCi introduced the M9R blocks (codes M9R 610, 700, 721, 722), with an entirely different turbo architecture. From the Mégane III onwards, the 1.5 dCi took over with its vast K9K family — more than twenty engine codes identified (K9K 608 to K9K 894) — and the 1.6 dCi 130 appeared under codes R9M 409 / 412. On the petrol side, the 1.2 TCe covers codes H5F 400 à H5F 412, fitted to the Mégane III and IV.

K9K: the pitfall of multiple variants on the 1.5 dCi

The K9K is the most widely represented family in this catalogue, and the trickiest to identify correctly. The same label — "1.5 dCi 90" or "1.5 dCi 110" — can correspond to distinct engine codes with turbos that are not interchangeable. The stated power output is not enough: only the code stamped on the block (K9K followed by three digits) allows you to pinpoint the correct manufacturer reference. On these engines, the most common causes of turbo failure are degraded engine oil, a blocked turbo lubrication circuit, and, on variable-geometry versions, a seized actuator. Persistent blue smoke, whistling, or the engine entering limp mode are warning signs that must not be ignored. Before any replacement, the root cause must be addressed: a blocked oil feed pipe or a cracked intake hose will destroy a new turbo just as quickly as the old one.

New units for almost all references, reconditioned for one 1.5 dCi 106 reference

All the turbos in this collection — 1.9 dT/DTI/dCi, 2.0 dCi, 1.6 dCi 130, 1.2 TCe, and the vast majority of 1.5 dCi units — are offered as a new turbo, sold with no old unit to return. A single reference, on the 1.5 dCi 106, is available as a reconditioned turbo with full refurbishment of the CHRA, bearings and seals. EDEN BOITES stocks several dozen manufacturer part numbers and equivalents to cover all H5F, K9K, R9M, M9R, F9Q and F8Q codes fitted to the Mégane.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Renault Mégane Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Renault Mégane Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
