From a fully laden Ducato running flat out to a long-distance motorhome: what the 2.3 Multijet endures before 200,000 km

A van or motorhome is not driven like a saloon car. Repeated loads at maximum gross weight, long motorway runs with the engine held at intermediate revs, back-to-back cold starts on urban rounds — these conditions place very different demands on the turbo compared with a light passenger vehicle. On the 2.3 Multijet, the variable geometry is susceptible to the gradual fouling of the vanes when oil changes are stretched or the oil circuit ages. A whistling noise under acceleration, blue or black smoke on pick-up, or uneven boost depending on engine speed are the first warning signs not to ignore. Before replacing the turbo, it is essential to identify and address the root cause of the failure — DPF fouling, an air leak on the intake circuit, or a lack of oil-line sealing — otherwise the new part will deteriorate rapidly.

Engine codes and references: one 2.3 Multijet, different turbos depending on power output

The 2.3 Multijet covers a wide power range on the Ducato — 110, 120, 130, 131, 140, 148, 150, 173 and 177 hp — across several engine generations. The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for selecting the correct turbo part number. The codes F1AE0481D, F1AE0481N, F1AE3481A, F1AE3481B, F1AE3481D, F1AE3481G correspond to the 110–130 hp variants of the first and second Multijet generations. The codes F1AE3481E, F1AGL411, F1AGL4111, F1AGL411B, F1AGL411C, F1AGL411D, F1AGL411M are fitted to the 130–177 hp versions of the more recent series. The code F1CE3481E is found on the 173/177 hp variant. Several codes may cover the same stated power output depending on the year of first registration and the market; conversely, a single code may correspond to different turbo references depending on the exact version. OEM and equivalent references are listed on each product page so you can cross-check against the number stamped on the original turbo.

New turbos: why this choice for the 2.3 Multijet light commercial vehicle

All the turbos offered here are new parts, sold with no old unit to return. This choice is well justified on a van or motorhome in active service: the bearings, actuator and CHRA assembly all start from new, with no history of accumulated thermal or mechanical stress. The longevity of a new part remains directly dependent on the quality of the installation and the condition of the lubrication circuit: purging the oil line before start-up, checking the flow rate, and ensuring a free oil return to the sump.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
