On the Audi Q5 (2008–2017), the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for identifying the exact part you need. The same engine capacity can cover several distinct blocks depending on the production year and power output: knowing your code prevents any ordering error.

2.0 TFSI: four codes for the same petrol capacity

The Q5's 2.0 TFSI comes in four engine codes: CAEB, CDNB, CDNC and CNCB. These blocks are not minor variants: they correspond to different generations and power outputs, each with their own specific internal components. The CAEB is the most common on the early production years, whilst the CNCB appears on later model years. Checking the code before taking any steps is essential.

2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI: the diesel codes to distinguish

On the diesel side, the 2.0 TDI covers three codes: CAHA, CGLB and CMGA. Here again, each code designates a block with its own specific characteristics; the CMGA, for example, is not interchangeable with a CAHA. The 3.0 TDI, a V6 diesel engine, is represented here by the single code CVUB. This block is fitted to the most powerful Q5 versions within the covered period and has a very different architecture from the 4-cylinder units: the sump, crankshaft assembly and ancillaries are not shared with the 2.0. All engines offered are bare engines.
