Reconditioned Fiat Punto 1.2 Gearbox

Q: How can I be sure it is compatible with my Fiat?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Q: Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

5 reconditioned references on an exchange basis, from €984 to €1175 — up to 24 months' warranty, delivery across France & Europe.

188A4000, 188A5000 or 199A4000: one 5-speed gearbox, but three distinct blocks

The 1.2 petrol Punto spans 1999 to 2012 across three engine codes. The 188A4000 and the 188A5000 were fitted to versions produced up to the early 2000s, whilst the 199A4000 corresponds to the block introduced on later series. These three codes do not share the same 5-speed manual gearbox: the casings, shafts and mountings differ from one block to another. Ordering without checking the engine code — stamped on the block — risks receiving an incompatible reference.

All references on this page are 5-speed manual gearboxes; no automatic or automated manual variant was ever fitted to the Punto 1.2 as standard. The engine code therefore remains the only reliable identification criterion before placing any order.
