Between 1999 and 2014, the Fabia 1.4 TDI was fitted exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. No automated manual variant, no automatic gearbox within this scope. The difficulty therefore lies not in the type of gearbox, but in pinpointing the correct one among the four engine codes on record: AMF, BNM, BNV and BMS. Each corresponds to a distinct generation or version of the 1.4 TDI block, and the gearbox references — PNY, PHB, LUX, JHG, HCS — are not all interchangeable between these codes. The engine code, stamped on the block, is the only element that allows you to identify the correct reference.
