Octavia from 2004 to 2020: how the generation and engine determine whether to go for exchange or rebuild

From the first Octavia II to the end of the Octavia III, the range spanned three commercial generations, ten distinct engines and four gearbox families — 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, DSG 6 and DSG 7. This variety makes the choice far from straightforward: the same engine capacity can correspond to structurally different gearboxes depending on the year of first registration and the engine code. Rebuilding the original unit makes particular sense when the gearbox you need is hard to find on an exchange basis, or when the engine code places the vehicle in an uncommon configuration — as is notably the case with certain DSG 6 variants on petrol versions, or 5-speed manuals on the very earliest diesels.

Diesel: five engines, gearbox families that do not overlap

The 1.9 TDI covers eight engine codes (AGR, ALH, ASV, ATD, AXR, BKC, BLS, BXE) and is fitted with either a 5-speed manual or a DSG 6 — two families with no mechanical connection. The 1.9 TDI 105 hp, identified solely by the code BKC, is exclusively equipped with a 5-speed manual. The 2.0 TDI covers seven codes (BKD, BMM, CEGA, CFHC, CLCB, CRLB, CUNA) and can be paired with a 6-speed manual, a DSG 6 or a DSG 7: three distinct scopes for the same engine capacity. Finally, the 1.6 TDI — three codes CAYC, CLHA, CRKB — is the only diesel in the range to combine a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a DSG 7.

Petrol: from the 1.2 TSI to the 2.0 TSI, gearboxes tied to specific codes

The petrol engines range from the 1.2 TSI (CBZA, CBZB, CJZA) to the 2.0 TSI (CCZA, CCZB, CHHB, CJXC), taking in the 1.4 TSI (CAXA, CAXC), the 1.5 TSI (DADA, DPCA), the 1.8 TSI and the 1.6 naturally aspirated (BGU, BSE, BSF). The DSG 6 is reserved for the 2.0 TSI; the other petrol engines are paired with 6-speed manuals or, in the case of the 1.6 naturally aspirated, a 5-speed manual. The DSG units offered in this collection are sold without the mechatronic unit but include a new dual-clutch — an important point to check before ordering if the diagnosis has identified the mechatronic unit as the faulty component.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Skoda model in stock?

We currently list 33 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Skoda?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Skoda?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
