On the Toyota Auris produced between 2006 and 2012, there is only one diesel engine option — the 1.4 D-4D, engine code 1ND-TV — yet it did not come with the same gearbox throughout that period. The first generation (2006–2010) is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the facelifted version from 2010 onwards may be equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. These two units are not interchangeable: the ratios, casing and manufacturer references all differ. Key points to watch with the 1ND-TV

The 1ND-TV unit is a four-cylinder 1,364 cm³ direct-injection common rail engine. Given the urban and suburban use for which the Auris is so often intended, first-generation 5-speed manual gearboxes sometimes show premature wear on the 2nd-gear synchroniser and input shaft seal leaks. The 6-speed gearbox introduced later features a different design for the integrated differential, which accounts in particular for the differences in reference numbers. No automatic or automated manual version is available within this scope: the 1.4 diesel Auris range is exclusively manual throughout the entire 2006–2012 period.

Available reconditioning options

Two service options are available depending on your situation: the exchange basis, where a rebuilt unit is dispatched directly to you, and reconditioning of your own gearbox, where your original unit is reconditioned and returned to you.
