Why does the Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 130 turbo fail?

On the Skoda Octavia I fitted with the 1.9 TDI 130 engine (engine code ASZ), the variable-geometry turbocharger is put under particular strain by the movable vanes that regulate boost pressure. Dirty engine oil or neglected oil changes lead to a build-up of deposits in the central cartridge and progressive seizure of the variable-geometry mechanism. A clogged air filter or a cracked intake hose can also cause dust ingestion or pressure fluctuations that accelerate wear on the bearings and turbine wheel. Driving habits such as sudden high-rev bursts without allowing the engine to cool down, or switching the engine off immediately after sustained use, also weaken the turbo on this engine.

Compatibility of the new turbo for the Skoda Octavia

This new turbo is compatible with reference 720855-5007S and fits the Skoda Octavia I equipped with the 1.9 TDI 130 engine, engine code ASZ, with an engine capacity of 1896 cm³, running on diesel. Before placing an order, it is recommended that you check the reference marked on your old turbo or on the vehicle's identification plate, as certain body variants (saloon or estate) may use closely related references.

Fitting advice for the ASZ engine

Before installing the new turbo on the 1.9 TDI 130, check the oil circuit (feed and return hoses, sump cleanliness), the condition of the intake hoses and the air intake to rule out any residual contamination. Prime the cartridge with oil before the first start-up to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings. Replace the air filter if necessary and inspect the intercooler to guarantee a clean, leak-free air supply.
