On the Ford 2.0 EcoBoost, the 203 hp and 240 hp versions do not share the same turbo — and entering via the engine code is the only way to avoid getting it wrong

The pitfall is real: the 2.0 EcoBoost is a single engine capacity, yet OEM references diverge as soon as the power output or vehicle changes. Engine code R9DA covers the ST version, whilst TNCA, TNCB, TNCD and TNCF correspond to the 203 hp version — and entries TNBA and TPBA cover both the 203 hp and 240 hp on a single product listing. Ordering without checking the code stamped on the block will lead directly to a fitment incompatibility.

Ford Mondeo, Focus, Kuga, Galaxy, S-Max: one engine family across five models

The 2.0 EcoBoost is fitted to the Ford Mondeo, Ford Focus, Ford Kuga, Ford Galaxy and Ford S-Max. This spread across very different vehicle types — compact saloon, compact SUV, MPV — comes with distinct turbo configurations depending on the power output chosen for each model. Codes R9CD, R9CI and TPWA relate to the 240 hp version; R9CD and R9CI also appear under the 240 hp entry alone. The SCTi version has its own separate entry. Each model-and-power combination may therefore point to a different product page: it is the Ford OEM reference — such as AG9N-6K682 or CJ5E-6K682, for example — and its equivalents that confirm the correct match, not the engine capacity alone.

On a turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine such as the 2.0 EcoBoost, turbo failures are frequently linked to lubrication quality: degraded or overdue oil, cold-start priming delays, or an air leak on the intake circuit. The typical symptoms are an abnormal whistling noise under acceleration, blue smoke from the exhaust and a marked drop in engine response.
