Reconditioned Audi A3 1.8 T 20V Engine

Q: How can I be sure it is compatible with my Audi?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right engine for your vehicle before you order.

Q: Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old engine (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

Four distinct engine codes for the 1.8 T 20V Audi A3 between 1996 and 2003: AGU, AJQ, APP and AQA do not refer to the same block

On this engine, the registration year alone is not enough to identify the exact block. The 1.8 T 20V in the A3 (8L) came in six engine codes — AGU, AJQ, APP, AQA, AUM and AUQ — covering different power outputs and injection variants between 1996 and 2003. Before placing any order, the code stamped on the block remains the only reliable reference; two A3s from the same production run can carry blocks that are not interchangeable.

The purchasing option available here is the reconditioned bare engine. If your block has localised mechanical damage rather than general wear, rebuilding your own unit may be worth considering: EDEN BOITES offers this option on the returned unit itself, avoiding any issues with code matching or administrative markings.
