5- or 6-speed manual, DSG or automated manual: the engine code decides where engine capacity falls short

A 2.0 TDI can come with either a 6-speed manual or a DSG 6, depending on the year and model; a 1.9 TDI on a Golf IV is not interchangeable with the same 1.9 TDI on an Octavia of the same era. It is the engine code stamped on the block — AMF, BNM, BMS, BAY, BNV for the VAG group 1.4 diesel engines; K9K 700, K9K 764, K9K 800, K9K 872 and their variants for Renault-Nissan engines; M9T 670, M9T 700, M9T 706, M9T 716 for the heavy-duty dCi units in vans — that determines the exact reconditioned gearbox reference to order, well before engine capacity or the year shown on the registration document.

Gearbox families and identification pitfalls

The catalogue covers vehicles produced from 1981 to 2026, from 1.2 petrol city cars to 2.5 dCi vans, with twenty distinct transmission types: 4-, 5- or 6-speed manuals, DSG 6 and DSG 7, S-tronic 6 and S-tronic 7, Quickshift automated manuals, BMP5, BMP6, SensoDrive, Easytronic, ETG6, 2-Tronic, DDCT and others. Across the VAG range (Golf, Polo, A3, A1, Leon, Ibiza, Touran, Tiguan, Caddy), the same vehicle generation can leave the factory with a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or a DSG depending on power output and market. Across the Renault-Nissan-Opel range (Trafic, Vivaro, Movano, Master, Kangoo, Clio, Mégane, Laguna, Qashqai, Astra), the K9K family alone feeds gearboxes with references JR5, JH3, JB3 and others depending on the exact engine code. A Trafic with engine code M9T 706 does not take the same gearbox as a Master with engine code M9T 716, even if both show 2.5 dCi on the number plate.

Two supply options: exchange or rebuild of your own unit

The gearboxes in this catalogue are available on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of your own unit, depending on the reference. These two options are technically distinct: the exchange option dispatches a ready-reconditioned unit to you; the rebuild option involves your own gearbox, which is returned to you after reconditioning. Automated manual gearboxes (Quickshift, BMP6, SensoDrive, Easytronic…) are supplied without the actuator or electrohydraulic robot; DSG and S-tronic units are delivered with a new dual-clutch but without the mechatronic unit.
