The answer depends on two variables: the engine code stamped on the block and the year of the vehicle. Over the 2011–2018 period, the Q3 2.0 TDI was fitted with two distinct transmissions — a 6-speed manual and a DSG 7 — and four referenced engine codes: CFFB, CLLB, CUVA and CUWA.

Why the engine code determines the choice of gearbox

The same Q3 2.0 TDI can leave the factory with either transmission depending on the variant and model year. The engine code — visible on the engine plate or in the manufacturer's documentation — is the essential starting point before placing any order: two vehicles showing the same engine capacity and power output do not necessarily share the same gearbox or the same fitment dimensions.

DSG 7: what the automatic version means in technical terms

The DSG 7 available in this range is supplied without the mechatronic unit, with a new dual-clutch assembly included. This is a structural point: the original mechatronic unit remains on the vehicle and is not included with the part. The 6-speed manual gearbox, for its part, does not carry this electronic identification constraint and is suited to versions fitted with it from the first generation of the Q3.
