1.9 CDTi Vivaro: four F9Q codes, two distinct gearboxes, and synchromesh wear that strikes from 150,000 km

On the Vivaro 1.9 CDTi from 2001 to 2006, the F9Q block comes in four codes — F9Q 750, F9Q 760, F9Q 762 and F9Q 772 — which were not all paired with the same gearbox. Some are matched to a 5-speed unit, others to a 6-speed: mixing the two during replacement results in a fitment incompatibility. The most common warning symptom on these transmissions is difficult or impossible engagement of the lower gears, characteristic of synchromesh degradation accelerated by intensive use under load and the repeated urban stop-start cycles typical of a van. In advanced cases, a clunking noise on overrun indicates deterioration of the secondary shaft gears.

Engine code and ratio count: the only valid selection criterion

The engine code stamped on the block, cross-referenced with the first registration date, is the only reliable way to determine with certainty whether the vehicle is fitted with the 5-speed or 6-speed version. Two Vivaro 1.9 CDTi vehicles from the same year can carry mechanically incompatible gearboxes depending on their exact F9Q code. EDEN BOITES lists both families across this 2001–2006 range.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Opel model in stock?

We currently list 24 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Opel?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Opel?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
