Reconditioned Citroën C4 2.0 HDi Engine

The 2.0 HDi in the C4 covers 14 distinct engine codes, and power output is not the only differentiating factor

Between 2004 and 2018, the DW10 block in 2.0 HDi form was produced across several power outputs, but also across different emission standards and cylinder head generations. The result: 14 identified engine codes within this range alone, spanning the earliest AHZ and DW10FD_AHX variants through to the G6DA–G6DG variants and the more recent codes QXBA, QXBB, RH02, TXWA and UFBA. Two blocks of the same engine capacity can therefore have different interfaces, a distinct timing architecture or a modified cooling circuit. Substituting one code for another without verification leads to genuine compatibility problems.

What leads to replacement on this diesel

The DW10 2.0 HDi is known for failures linked to crankshaft fatigue and liner wear on high-mileage units, compounded by oil supply issues. A failing high-pressure injection system can cause fuel dilution of the lubricant and accelerate internal wear to the point where the block must be replaced. The exact engine code, stamped on the block itself, remains the only valid starting point for identifying the compatible part — the vehicle's model year alone is not sufficient to distinguish between two codes within the same G6D series.
