1.0 EcoBoost on the Ford Fiesta: 10 engine codes between 2013 and 2017

Over four years of production — 2013 to 2017 — the three-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost generated ten distinct engine codes on the Fiesta. This variety is down to successive revisions of the block: cylinder head updates, changes to thermal management, and power output variations (80, 100 and 125 hp depending on the model year). Two prefix families exist side by side: codes beginning with SFJ (SFJC, SFJD, SFJH, SFJK, SFJN, SFJP) and codes beginning with M1J / YYJ (M1JE, M1JH, YYJA, YYJE). These two groups do not share the same internal characteristics; the rated power output and the year of first registration are therefore essential for identifying the correct code before placing any order.

Known issues with this engine

The 1.0 EcoBoost is well known for its weaknesses around the oil-immersed timing belt (a chain on later versions) and for head gasket failures caused by overheating, particularly on the early 2013–2014 model years. A cooling system failure frequently results in an engine block beyond repair. The engines offered here are bare engines: ancillaries (turbo, water pump, alternator) are not included. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable means of identification; engine capacity alone cannot distinguish between the ten variants listed in this collection.
