It's a common trap: two Master 2.3 dCi vehicles from the same year can be fitted with engines that are incompatible with each other. The M9T family covers 22 distinct engine codes across the 2010–2024 range, from the M9T670 to the M9T89x references introduced in more recent phases. Power output (100, 125, 145 or 165 hp depending on the variant) and vehicle generation (facelifted Master II, Master III phase 1, phase 2) directly determine the code. Two engines with similar suffixes — M9T690 and M9T698, for example — are not minor variants: their internal specifications differ.

Read the engine code, not just the engine capacity

The M9T code is stamped on the block and is the only reliable technical reference for selecting the correct bare engine. The registration year and fiscal horsepower are not enough: a single production year can correspond to several codes depending on the drivetrain originally ordered (front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, double cab, panel van). For Master vehicles used in intensive duty cycles — courier work, heavy commercial use — faults observed on the M9T family typically affect the chain-driven timing system and the lubrication circuit under high thermal load.

Two purchasing options for an M9T bare engine

The engines in this collection are available either as a standard exchange unit or as a rebuilt to 0 km unit, subject to available references. These two options represent distinct levels of reconditioning; the choice depends on the condition of the original block and the requirements of the vehicle. In both cases, the engine is supplied as a bare engine: ancillary components (turbo, starter motor, alternator, injection pump) are not included and must be reused or replaced separately.
