Same 2.3 dCi, but 21 different engine codes: the M9T Master cannot be ordered without verification

This is the classic pitfall with this vehicle: two Master 2.3 dCi vans from the same year can carry M9T blocks with different specifications. Between 2010 and 2024, the M9T family spans 21 referenced variants — from M9T672 to M9T898 — not all produced at the same power outputs, nor for the same applications (panel van, combi, platform cab, crew cab). An M9T706 and an M9T726 are two distinct blocks despite having identical engine capacity. Only the code stamped on the block, cross-referenced with the model year and vehicle configuration, makes it possible to identify the correct reference.

What the M9T code reveals about expected mechanical condition

The documented failures on this block centre primarily on the cylinder head (cracks, blown gaskets on thermally stressed versions) and the lubrication circuit on high-mileage units. The higher-output versions, which appeared on the most recent model years, have internal architectures that differ from the early 2010–2014 series: a part from an early generation is not suitable for a late-model Master. The engine is supplied as a bare engine; ancillary components (turbo, injection system, auxiliaries) remain those of the original vehicle.
