Has the Master 2.3 dCi gearbox changed across the M9T generations since 2010?

The 2.3 dCi has been fitted to the Master from 2010 through to the 2024 model year — a lifespan that conceals some genuine evolution. The M9T block comes in seven distinct codes — M9T 670, M9T 680, M9T 700, M9T 702, M9T 706, M9T 710 and M9T 716 — each corresponding to a different stage of development, particularly in terms of power output (from 100 to 170 hp depending on the variant) and electronic calibration. These codes, stamped on the engine identification plate, are the first thing to check before placing any order.

6-Speed Manual or Quickshift: what the first registration date tells you

Two gearbox families cover this engine: the 6-speed manual and the Quickshift (6-speed automated manual gearbox). The Quickshift was introduced mid-career for heavy-duty commercial use; it shares its mechanical architecture with the manual but incorporates a separate robotic actuator — which is not included in the reconditioned unit. The first registration date, cross-referenced with the M9T code, is therefore the only reliable way to identify which of the two is fitted to the vehicle: a Master from the early production run was almost exclusively fitted with the manual, whereas post-2014 versions may have been supplied in either configuration depending on trim level and market.

Known weak points over this period

On early M9T units (2010–2014), the primary shaft bearings and the 5th and 6th gear selector forks are the wear points most frequently reported under intensive commercial use. On the Quickshift, symptoms such as juddering or refusal to change gear are generally attributable to the actuator rather than the gearbox's internal mechanics: a differential diagnosis is essential before concluding that there is a failure in the mechanical assembly itself.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Renault model in stock?

We currently list 23 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Renault?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Renault?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
