Did the 2.8 dCi Master use the same gearbox from 1998 to 2010?

No. Across the twelve years of production of the Master fitted with the 2.8 dCi, two types of transmission were used: a 5-speed manual and a Quickshift (6-speed automated manual gearbox). The changeover does not follow a single date: it depends on the engine code and the vehicle configuration. The two engine codes identified within this range are S9W700 and S9W702, and they do not necessarily correspond to the same gearbox type. Confusing the two families will invariably result in an incompatibility.

Quickshift: what the engine code alone does not tell you

The Quickshift is an automated manual gearbox with an electrohydraulic actuator. It is supplied without the actuator: only the mechanical gearbox itself is included. To identify the correct reference from the nine available within this range (PF1013, PF1AA013, PF1AA019, PF1014, PF1S08, PF1AA027, PF1AA020, PF1AA014, PF1019), the engine code alone is not sufficient: the year of first registration and the vehicle's load configuration (panel van, combi, chassis cab) are determining factors. A manual S9W700 and a Quickshift S9W700 share the same block but remain two entirely separate units, with no interchangeability whatsoever.
