Why can the same Volvo 2.4 D5 take up to eight different engine codes?

This is the classic pitfall with Volvo diesels: a customer orders a part for their 2.4 D5, yet that engine designation actually covers the codes D5244T, D5244T2, D5244T4, D5244T5, D5244T10, D5244T11, D5244T15 and D5244T18 — eight variants that are not interchangeable with one another. The vehicle's year, model (V70, XC70, S80, XC90…) and actual engine output determine which of these codes is stamped on the engine plate. Before placing any order, that code is the only reliable reference.

Turbos, gearboxes and engines: what the Volvo collection covers

The collection spans 2001 to 2019 and covers thirteen models, from the C30 to the XC90, including the S60, V60 and S40. Turbos make up the majority of the catalogue, available new, on both the diesel side (D4162T on the 1.6 D2, D5204 family on the 2.0 D3/D4, DV6UTED4 on certain 1.6 D models) and the petrol side (B4204 codes for the 2.0 T5, B5254T2 for the 2.5 T). Reconditioned gearboxes — 5- or 6-speed manuals — mainly cover the V40, V50 and S60. Bare engines available on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of your own unit remain more targeted; always check the full engine code, as a B4184S11 (1.8) or a B4164S3 (1.6) has nothing in common with the B4204 family used in the 2.0 T5.

Petrol or diesel: the engine families not to mix up

On the petrol side, two generations coexist: the older five-cylinder units (codes B52xx, B523x) fitted notably to the S70 and early S80, and the four-cylinder 2.0 T Drive-E units (codes B4204Txx) introduced on the S60, V60 and XC60 from 2014 onwards. The same model such as the S80 II could therefore be fitted with a T5 coded B4204T11 or B4204T15 depending on the exact variant. On the diesel side, the transition from the 2.4 D5 (D5244T) to the 2.0 D3/D4 (D5204T2, D5204T3, D5204T7) was phased in gradually across models: on an XC60 or a V40, engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the correct part.

    Frequently asked questions

Are your Volvo parts compatible with my model?

We cover the vast majority of Volvo engines. To get the exact part, give us your number plate or request an online quote: our advisers confirm compatibility using your registration document.

    Are reconditioned Volvo parts reliable?

Yes. Every Volvo part is reconditioned in our workshop, with wear parts replaced, bench-tested and guaranteed for up to 24 months. A reliable and far more affordable alternative to new, starting from a restored original part.

How does the exchange system work for a Volvo part?

You order your reconditioned Volvo part, we dispatch it, then you send us back your old unit (the core). We arrange all the transport both ways — you don't have to handle any logistics.

Do you deliver Volvo parts everywhere, and how quickly?

Yes, we deliver throughout France and Europe. Depending on the availability of the reference, your Volvo part leaves our workshop quickly, and you can pay in instalments, up to 10 payments.
