Meriva 1.6 petrol: Easytronic or 5-speed manual – which gearbox does your vehicle actually have?

The answer comes down to two things: the year of manufacture and the engine code. On the Meriva A 1.6 petrol (2003–2010), two transmissions were fitted at the factory — a 5-speed manual and an Easytronic — and they share neither the same mechanics nor the same failure behaviour. Identifying which one is fitted to your vehicle is therefore an essential first step before searching for any parts.

Z16XE and Z16XEP: two engine codes, the same choice of transmission

Both engine codes associated with this engine — Z16XE and Z16XEP — are compatible with both gearbox types. The Z16XEP is a slightly updated version of the Z16XE; gearboxes are not always interchangeable between the two codes without first checking cross-references. Consult the vehicle's identification plate and the gearbox number itself to confirm exact compatibility.

Easytronic: an automated manual gearbox where the fault doesn't always lie with the mechanical gearbox

The Easytronic is a manual gearbox with automated control. Its most common symptoms — rough gear changes, failure to engage, warning light on — are often caused by the electro-hydraulic actuator, which is sold separately: the mechanical gearbox offered here is supplied without this module. Before ordering, make sure it is the mechanical gearbox itself that is at fault, and not the actuator or a selector sensor.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Opel model in stock?

We currently list 6 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Opel?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Opel?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
