F4R794, F4R795 or F4R796: each engine code on the Espace 2.0 petrol determines a different gearbox

The three engine codes in this collection — F4R794, F4R795 and F4R796 — cover the Espace IV 2.0 petrol from 2002 to 2014, but they do not all use the same transmission. The F4R794 is paired with references from the JC5 family (5-speed manual gearbox), while the later F4R795 and F4R796, introduced on more recent model years, are matched to the PK6 family (6-speed manual). The identification plate bolted to the gearbox casing — not just the engine capacity — is therefore the essential starting point for identifying the correct part.

JC5 and PK6: two architectures with nothing in common

The JC5 and PK6 are entirely different in design: ratios, casing, controls and mounting geometry are all completely different. References JC5118, JC5061, JC5119 and JC5070 correspond to the 5-speed variants; PK6S12, PK6060 and PK6010 to the 6-speed variants. The same Espace 2.0 can therefore be fitted with either, depending on its exact engine code. The PK6 is known to be more susceptible to differential wear and driveshaft seal leaks in this type of high-mileage family use. Checking the code stamped on the gearbox currently fitted remains the only way to avoid an ordering error.
