K9K from 65 hp to 109 hp: which turbo for your 1.5 dCi Clio depending on the variant?

The answer varies depending on whether your Clio produces 65, 75, 90 or 106 hp: at the same engine capacity, the K9K has evolved into several variants carrying distinct codes, each requiring a different turbo reference. All turbos listed here are new parts, sold as direct sale with no old unit to return.

Engine codes: the essential starting point

On entry-level versions (64 to 82 hp), the K9K family comes in a wide range of codes — K9K 700, 702, 708, 710, 714, 716, 740, 752, 768, 792, 800, 840 — which do not all share the same turbo reference. The 65 hp versions carry specifically the codes K9K 700 and K9K 704, whilst the 84–86 hp versions correspond to the codes K9K 760 and K9K 766. The 75, 88 and 90 hp versions, as well as the 106–109 hp range, remain identified under the generic code K9K without a suffix in certain manufacturer documents: checking the engine plate is essential before placing an order.

Why the turbo fails on a K9K

The K9K is well known for its sensitivity to lubrication quality: an overdue oil change interval, degraded oil or a partially blocked oil circuit is enough to damage the turbo bearings. A clogged particulate filter or EGR valve can also create harmful back pressure. The classic symptoms are a whistling noise under acceleration, persistent exhaust smoke or a clear loss of power with no immediate fault code. Identifying and rectifying the root cause — oil circuit, EGR, DPF — is what determines the service life of the replacement turbo.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Renault Clio 1.5 dCi Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Renault Clio 1.5 dCi Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
