Six F9Q engine codes for the Laguna 1.9 dCi: why they don't all take the same gearbox

The Laguna 1.9 dCi spans the 2001–2008 period across six variants of the F9Q block: F9Q670, F9Q674, F9Q750, F9Q752, F9Q758 and F9Q759. Not all of these variants share the same transmission. Some are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, others with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The registration year and the engine code stamped on the block are the only two reliable references for identifying the correct part: an early Laguna II does not share the same gearbox casing as a late-production Laguna III.

Two gearbox families, two distinct sets of references

The references in this collection cover both families: the JC5 (5-speed) and PK6 (6-speed) gearboxes. A JC5099 is not interchangeable with a PK6S02 or a PK6382, even if both come from a 1.9 dCi. Ordering on the basis of engine capacity or model year alone is a common source of confusion, as Renault ran both families alongside each other during overlapping years depending on trim level and power output.

Known weak points on these transmissions

On the 5-speed gearboxes of this generation, wear to the input shaft bearing and rumbling in 3rd and 4th gear are the most well-documented symptoms. The PK6 6-speed gearboxes show a higher incidence of premature wear to the 5th and 6th gear selectors, often made worse by high mileage under load (towing, trailer use). In both cases, the full engine code remains the essential starting point before placing any order.
