Maxity 2.5 dCi: robust 5-speed gearbox, more heavily stressed 6-speed gearbox

On the Maxity fitted with the YD25DDTi engine, the weak point is not the engine itself but the transmission. The 6-speed gearbox, fitted to the most heavily loaded configurations, is more susceptible to synchroniser problems — particularly in 2nd and 3rd — due to the repeated start-stop cycles typical of urban commercial use. The 5-speed gearbox, the older of the two in the range, has a less heavily stressed design but is not immune to differential wear under intensive use. In both cases, the most common symptom is difficult or noisy gear changes when hot — a sign of advanced deterioration that cannot be resolved by simply topping up the oil.

Two distinct gearboxes, one engine code

The YD25DDTi is the only engine code referenced for this engine, yet it can be paired with either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual depending on the vehicle's configuration and axle ratio. The references — including 32010MB91A, 32131MB72B and 32010LC61A — are not interchangeable between the two families. Checking the number of speeds on the gearbox actually fitted, rather than relying solely on the engine code, is the only way to confirm compatibility before removal.
