The 2.5 TDI in the Transporter T5 covers five distinct engine codes between 2003 and 2009

On this T5 generation, the 2.5 TDI is the only large-capacity diesel engine available as a bare unit. Five codes coexist — ACV, AJT, AXD, AXG, BNZ — and they are not all mechanically equivalent: power output, injection system and certain internal components vary from one code to another. Identifying the exact code stamped on the block before placing any order is therefore essential, as an AXD block cannot automatically be substituted for a BNZ without prior verification.

This engine is fitted to Transporter variants ranging from heavy-duty commercial vehicles to minibus configurations, which affects the thermal and mechanical demands placed on the block. The two purchasing options available — exchange basis and rebuilding your own unit — allow you to choose depending on whether you need to get back on the road quickly with a reconditioned block or have your own engine rebuilt.
