The answer depends on the exact generation and engine code. For the 2006–2012 period (8P), the 2.0 TFSI was paired with either the wet-clutch DSG 6 or the 6-speed manual; from the 8V generation (2013) onwards, the dry-clutch DSG 7 became the dominant option, though the manual remained available in certain market configurations.

Three gearbox families, three distinct characteristics

The DSG 6 (DQ250) is a wet-clutch gearbox, well suited to handling the high torque of the 2.0 TFSI in sporting use. The DSG 7 (DQ381 on the facelifted 8V and the 8Y) handles increased power output, but its mechatronic unit is sensitive to intense thermal cycling — an important point to bear in mind before any diagnosis.
